Water services are required throughout the life of oil or natural gas wells and are critical to drilling, completion and production activity. Water is the conduit for all of the activity in oil or natural gas wells and is used to lubricate the drill bit, control pressure in the well and Frac’ rock zones to release trapped reserves. The peak periods of need for Fluid Services are during drilling, Frac’ing and production. The amount of Fluid Services required at a well site during these periods is correlated to the depth of the well.
We deliver fresh water to our customer’s well sites via truck, stores fresh water at the well site in Frac’ tanks and haul away flow-back water that is extracted from the well. The ability to provide reliable and coordinated fluid management services throughout the life cycle of oil or natural gas wells provides a complete range of service in fluid management, a vital element in drill-site management. Our fluid disposal service involves the treatment and forced evaporation of flow-back water that is hauled from a well site to one of the Company’s seven fluid disposal facilities located in the Uinta and Piceance Basins.
After the completion of the treatment process, the water flows into holding ponds and is naturally or, conditions permitting, force evaporated by sprinkler systems powered by electric pumps. The capacity of the ponds is replenished as the water evaporates. Each disposal facility is comprised of dedicated treatment tanks or ponds and several holding ponds for water evaporation. Treatment tanks are made of concrete, and all of the holding ponds are lined with a 60mm thick high-density polyethylene protective lining to prevent seepage of the waste water into the soil.
